When Anna died of an infection on February 8th, 1892 after giving birth to her fourth child, Cora, Julian was devastated. Following Anna’s death, her oldest sister Ella began caring for the three surviving children. 7
While Julian worked on murals for the World's Columbian Exhibition in Chicago from August to October of 1892, Ella watched over the children in Windham and wrote regularly to Julian to report on their activities and wellbeing. On October 29, 1893, a year and a half after Anna died, Weir and Ella Baker married.
